Factory Role: Closing Room Manager
Years at Goral: 15 years
What does a day in the life of a Closing Room Manager look like?
As the Closing Room Manager I’m one of the first people in each morning. I start by checking what orders are ready to be picked up. Then I make any necessary preparations depending on what orders are in and then distribute the orders to the team. Throughout the day it is my responsibility to resolve any issues, oversee the closing and make sure the team is happy and motivated.
How did you get into shoemaking?
I was looking for some temporary work one year to earn a bit of extra money for Christmas and I started at the Goral factory packing shoes. That was fifteen years ago now!
What are your favourite style of Gorals?
It has to be the Hadfield, when Dom told me we were going to aircord the toe box I didn’t think it would work but seeing it in the flesh definitely changed my mind.
What are your passions outside of work?
I love spending time with the family and friends, there’s nothing better than getting everyone together for a party. I also like walking and the countryside so spend a lot of my time exploring the Peak district.
Tell us something about yourself that people wouldn’t expect?
I’ve visited 26 different countries including Japan, Cuba and Jamaica.
