Caring for Spitfire leather...

Spitfire leather is a waxed, rough-out or cracked finish leather designed to age with wear. It’s meant to look rugged and lived-in, so the care approach is more about preserving character than keeping it pristine.

Here’s how to care for it:

1. Brush Off Dirt

Use a soft horsehair brush or suede brush to gently remove dust and dirt. Do this after every few wears to prevent buildup.

2. Avoid Over-Conditioning

Spitfire leather already has oils and waxes worked into it. Too much conditioner or cream can ruin the finish and darken the leather. Only apply something if it feels excessively dry and even then, use a light wax or a leather balm specifically for waxed/nubuck leathers. Avoid anything glossy.

3. Keep It Dry

If they get wet, let them dry naturally at room temperature. Don’t use heat sources. Stuff with newspaper or a shoe tree to hold shape. Once dry, brush them out.

4. Embrace the Patina

This leather is made to look better the more you wear it. Scratches, scuffs, and creases are part of the charm. You can brush or rub them out with your hand or a cloth, but don't aim for perfection.
