WHAT IS A CREPE SOLE AND WHAT ARE IT'S BENEFITS?

A crepe sole is made from natural rubber that’s been tapped from rubber trees, rolled into sheets, and left to air-dry. As it dries, the rubber forms a soft, rippled texture with a slightly uneven character, similar to the surface of a French crêpe, which is where the name comes from. Unlike heavily processed rubber soles, crepe is minimally treated. It retains its natural softness, flexibility, and elasticity. Natural crepe rubber is primarily sourced from South and Southeast Asia. The trees are not cut down; they’re gently tapped for latex, making crepe a more sustainable.

What are the benefits of a crepe sole?

1. Immediate comfort
Crepe rubber is naturally soft and flexible, so there’s little to no break-in period. It moulds subtly to your foot over time.

2. Shock absorption
The dense yet springy structure absorbs impact underfoot, making it ideal for all day wear.

3. Flexibility
Because it isn’t over-processed, crepe moves naturally with the foot, improving overall comfort and reducing stiffness.

4. Natural materials
Made from tapped rubber rather than synthetics, crepe is biodegradable and renewable.

5. Distinctive aesthetic
The subtle rippled texture and warm, natural tone give shoes a relaxed, timeless character that leans to a heritage aesthetic.

The ROMA pairs this natural crepe sole with a silhouette inspired by the original German Army Trainer, updated for improved fit and comfort straight out of the box.

The suede is exceptionally soft, with a dense, medium temper, moderate oil content, and a short nap. It offers structure without stiffness and develops character over time. Each pair is handmade in Sheffield, England using Blake stitch construction, keeping the profile sleek while allowing flexibility and easy resoling. Every pair comes with a lifetime guarantee, when the time comes, simply send them back for a resole and refurbishment, built not just to be worn, but to be worn for years.
