What is the Vibram Arctic Grip sole?

When winter arrives, most footwear struggles to keep up with slippery pavements, icy steps, and frozen trails - they can turn even the shortest walk into a challenge. That’s where Vibram Arctic Grip comes in, a sole technology designed specifically to tackle ice and snow with confidence. We believe that footwear should work as beautifully as it looks, that’s why we use Vibram Arctic Grip on the SAMARA.

The Vibram Arctic Grip sole is the most advanced cold-weather gripping system Vibram has ever created. Unlike traditional winter soles, which rely mainly on rubber treads, Arctic Grip incorporates unique polymer compounds and microscopic fibers that grip directly onto ice. It is a sole that dramatically improves traction on wet ice.

  • Ice grip technology - specifically engineered for traction on wet ice.
  • Thermochromatic lugs - the lugs change colour in cold temperatures as a visual indicator that your shoes are ready for icy conditions.
  • Durability - designed to last through harsh winter wear, without sacrificing flexibility.
  • All-weather performance - while optimised for ice, it also provides reliable grip on cold, wet, or snowy ground.

Every sole we choose reflects a bigger philosophy, shoes built to last. With the SAMARA featuring the Arctic Grip sole, it’s a shoe that won’t be retired when the weather turns, it’s designed to go further. Beyond that, the SAMARA is backed by our Rebuild+ lifetime repair guarantee, when the sole eventually wears, we’ll replace it, extending the life of the shoe even more.
