How do they fit?

The SMUGS run large due to being unlined. For the best fit, we recommend ordering half a size down from your usual size.

As a lace up style, you can create a personalised fit.

As an unlined shoe they can require a longer break-in period, however, once broken in they will become extremely comfortable and conform to your foot's natural shape.

Thanks to our unique Blake Stitch construction, our skilled craftsmen can carefully remove the insole and outsole, replace them with your choice of new materials, refresh the leather insole, and add a fresh pair of cotton laces, all by hand. Once complete, your shoes are shipped straight back to you from our workshop.

1. Wear the socks you typically pair with boots.  
2. Place your foot on a piece of paper and trace its outline.  

3. Measure from the heel to the longest toe using a ruler.  

4. Match your measurement to the table above and choose the closest size for your foot length.

Fit Guide: Regular (D) vs Wide (EE)

Most of our customers will feel right at home in our Regular Fit (D) — it’s our standard width and suits the majority of foot shapes. But if you have a broader foot or often find standard shoes a little snug, our Wide Fit (EE) offers extra room across the forefoot for all-day comfort.

Our fit options:

The Wide Fit (EE) styles are approximately 1/4 inch (about 6 mm) wider in girth measurement than our Regular Fit (D) styles. This added space offers a more generous fit for broader feet without compromising structure or style.

In the UK, a D fit is considered average width for men.
In the USA, this is often called a Medium (M), Standard, or Regular fit.
A Wide (EE) fit gives you more width across the ball of the foot — roughly one full width size up.

Whether you go with D or EE, both fits are built on the same last and crafted with the same precision. The width is the only difference — the shape, silhouette, and quality remain identical.

Not sure what to pick?

If you usually wear standard-width shoes and they fit just fine, choose Regular (D).If your shoes often feel tight across the front or sides, or you have a naturally wider foot, Wide (EE) might be the better call.

Not only size matters

This is more a Goral service review than a shoe review.

After a 4 month lead time for shoes to arrive, which was expected as a pre-order it was disappointing to find sizing did not match majority of my other shoes and I had to return shoes.
Over two weeks after the returns were received back from Goral I am waiting for indication of likely replacement timing. Whilst Goral's AI email service bot is quick, it is not actually helpful in my case. So need human in the loop response to resolve and that has not been forthcoming.
