Introducing BUXTON
Damn good looking boots, made with the strongest construction in the world.
A few years ago, we reached out to a footwear manufacturer located just a short drive from the GORAL workshop. This manufacturer specialises in one of the oldest and most durable techniques in bootmaking, the brass wire construction, and they own 3 out of only 4 machines in the world capable of this method. It is a small, family-run workshop, and at the time, they didn’t have the capacity to work with GORAL. However, persistence eventually won and after three years, they finally agreed to collaborate on creating the BUXTON boot.
The story behind the making of the BUXTON....
Originally designed for quarry workers, the BUXTON boot embodies the same resilience as the men who inspired it. Built to face the challenge of week-in week-out wear without breaking down, this boot has earned its place in the GORAL collection, carrying the pride of years of service.
The soles are attached with a 3 BUSM Rapid Standard brass wire screwing machines - of which only four exist in the world. Three of these machines are in their workshop, and the fourth is believed to be in New Zealand. The brass wire, drawn from a giant spool, is threaded through the sole, insole, and leather upper, creating an exceptionally strong, durable bond. This technique, far older than a Goodyear welt, is one of the most reliable methods for sole attachment. These machines, along with many aspects of the build process, date back to the late 1800s, ensuring that the boots you wear today are made in the same time-honored way they've been crafted for over 125 years, supporting England’s hardworking men.
Creating the sole for the boot starts with a process of making the soles by fitting them with a strengthening wooden shank along the base of the sole, and then the void between the upper & sole is filled with traditional cork filler. The triple leather soles are bonded together and then stitched 'blind' upside-down before being pressed into a curved shape on the sole-press machine, then fitted with a Dainite Logger sole.
The BUXTON is made with a full Horween Chromexcel upper, a leather renowned for its durability and distinct pull-up characteristics. Chromexcel darkens quickly, allowing for a unique, accelerated patina that only improves with time. To ensure maximum longevity, the upper is expertly stitched using our signature triple Puritan stitch, known for its superior strength and durability.
Complementing the boot is a thick set of leather laces, paired perfectly with antique eyelets and speed hooks. These hooks not only enhance the boot's appeal but also make lacing up and removing the boots at the end of the day a breeze. Additionally, the BUXTON features a gusseted, or bellows, tongue, which provides excellent water resistance when laced up, keeping your feet protected and dry.
Owning a pair of BUXTON boots means stepping into a rich history of craftsmanship, dedication, and old-world quality - traits that are increasingly rare and forever valuable.
