Understanding duties, taxes and tariffs on GORAL orders to the USA

At GORAL, we want your shopping experience to be as smooth and transparent as possible, from browsing our handmade footwear to unboxing your new pair at home. If you’re ordering from the USA, one common question we hear is about duties and taxes - what they are, who pays them, and how we handle them for you.

What are duties, taxes and tariffs?

When goods are imported into the United States, customs authorities may charge import duties, taxes or tariffs. These are calculated based on the value of the goods and the shipping cost, and are required before your package can be delivered.  Without pre-payment, the recipient (that’s you!) would normally have to pay these fees upon delivery. This can be frustrating and sometimes unpredictable, with extra costs appearing unexpectedly.

How GORAL handles it?

From the 1st September, 2025, we’ve made it simple, all GORAL orders to the USA are Delivered Duties Paid (DDP).

This means:

  • No extra charges on delivery: The price you see at checkout is the price you pay, we handle duties and taxes upfront.
  • Faster, smoother delivery: By paying duties and taxes in advance, your order doesn’t get held up at customs.
  • Transparent pricing: You know exactly what you’re spending, with no surprises.

Which orders does this apply to?

The DDP service applies to all USA orders placed after 1st September, so you can shop confidently knowing there won’t be extra fees.

Why do we do this?

GORAL is a small, family-run business, and our goal is to make the experience of owning handmade, resoleable, British footwear seamless and enjoyable. Handling duties and taxes for our U.S. customers is just one way we remove friction and let you focus on what really matters, wearing your shoes.
